Difference Between 4G and 5G Network

  • Industry News    release time:2019-03-15
  • With no doubt, 5G is a hot topic recently. Maybe most people know what 5G is now. But what is the real difference between 4G and 5G? Here comes a picture below that comparing 4G and 5G technologies from performance characteristics and technical specifications.

Latency is the time that passes from the moment information is sent from a device until it can be used by the receiver. 4G latency is 10 ms while 5G is less than 1ms. Lower latency means that you’d be able to download and upload files quickly, and watch a smooth 4K video. Aslo when it comes to connected driving, the data can be transferd in areal time. A decision of stop can bemade in fractions of a second before collsion accident. That’s why 5G makes self-driving a great progress.

According to Cisco, global mobile data traffic is 7.2 Exabytes/Month by the end of 2016. With the addition of 5G, monthly data traffic can be 50 exabytes by 2021. More and more people surfing the internet, more and more data would be collected and shared. The development of the digital society is accelerating.

Peak data rates is the fastest data transfer rate for a device.in the stable condition of the device, 5G has a maximum peak download speed of 20 Gb/s while 4G sits at just 1 Gb/s. Just take a simple example to imagine how fast 20GB/S is. It may takes you around 2 minutes to download a Blu-Ray(15GB) on 4G networks while it costs 6s on 5G networks. However, These are just theoretical speeds that devices experience, since there are often many factors that affect bandwidth.

Radio wave frequencies range anywhere from 3 kilohertz (kHz) up to 300 gigahertz (GHz). 5G uses extremely high frequencies in the 30 GHz to 300 GHz range, which have the advantage of being able to carry lots of data, while 4G networks available spectrumis 3 GHz.

Connection density is the ability to support the successful delivery of a message of a certain size within a certain time. 5G networks density is 1 million connections/Km2 which is 10 times than 4G.

Higher connection density (5G) enabling more efficient signaling for IoT connectivity, progress the development of the digital society.

5G isn't widely available yet, network infrastructure construction will take vast sums of money and the security of networks remains to be disscussed . All of these means we have a long way to go. Still we can surmised that 5G will get massive deployments by large telcom providers in the next few years, considering the advantage of 5G.

In brief, 5G is the next phase of mobile technology and is widely believed faster, smarter and more efficient than 4G. With 5G network, we can control all the household appliances and our smart device as they are connected together. Aslo, telemedicine, remote surgery, and even self-driving will apply to life soon. Anyway, our life will become more efficient and convinent in the era of 5G.
