Fiber optic connector is a device that is detachably connected between an optical fiber and an optical fiber. The more common fiber optic connectors include fiber optic adapters and quick connectors.
Fast connector is also called quick connector, field-assembled fiber optical active connector. It is a reusable and removable passive optical device, mainly used for the connection between optical fibers and fiber optical equipment. It is currently the most widely used passive optical device. According to different installation structures, it can be divided into : mechanical connection type and hot melt type. The structure of the fast connector consists of three parts: the main body, the shell and the tail cap.
Fiber Optical Adaptor
Fiber optic adaptor is also a passive optical device, it is mainly used to connect two fiber optic connectors of the same or different interface types in the fiber optic cabling system. It is often used to connect different patch cords or between patch cord and fiber optic equipment. Fiber optic adaptor is widely used in television networks, local area networks, fiber optic communication systems and FTTH.
Conventional fiber optic adaptor is divided into two types : flange and without flange. The fiber optic adaptor without flange can be directly stuck on the panel or tray, while the fiber optic adaptor with flange needs to be fixed with screws.
Difference between fast connector and fiber optic adaptor
Fast connector only have a single connector type ( SC, LC ) to complete the connection of optical fiber and fiber optical equipment. But fiber optical adaptor can realize conversion between different interfaces such as FC, SC, ST, LC, MTRJ, MPO, E2000, etc.
Fast connector is a connecting plug between optical fiber and fiber equipment, it can realize the transmission of optical signals. But fiber optic adaptor can be used to interconnect fiber optic equipment of different types, specifications or interfaces, and play a connecting function.
3. Appearance Structure
Fast connector is usually made of plastic, and it is an elongated cuboid, only suitable for one type of fiber optic connector. Fiber optic adaptor is made of metal or plastic, and it is usually rectangular or cylindrical. Both ends of fiber optic adaptor is designed to match jacks and pins of different connector types.
Fast connector is mainly used for the physical connection between optical fiber and fiber optical equipment, it is commonly used in local area networks, wide area networks, and data centers. Fiber optic adaptor is mainly used to connect fiber optic equipment of different types, specifications or interfaces, such as used in fiber distribution racks, fiber optic switches and other equipment.
Fast connector is usually pluggable, and users can freely plug and unplug them as needed, making maintenance and replacement easier. Fiber optic adaptor is usually one time installation and not pluggable.
How to install Fast Connector
1. Remove the connector tail cover and pass the cable through it;
2. Use fiber optic strippers to strip the cable jacket, the length is about 45-50mm;
3. Use Miller pliers to strip the exposed coating to expose the optical fiber;
4. Wipe and clean the optical fiber with a dust-proof cloth;
5. Fix the cable to the cable holder;
6. Use a clamp to cut the optical fiber;
7. Insert the fiber into the tail of connector till the limit and fix the fiber;
8. Take the boot cover down, connect the screw cap with boot by turning it;
9. Turn the protrusion of housing toward the bottom and unite it to the body.
