    What is the Working Principle of 100G QSFP28 Fiber Optical Module?

  • QSFP28 fiber optical module is a packaging type in 100G fiber optical modules, and it is also the most common 100G fiber optical module package in 100G network deployment on the market. It is mainly used in 100G Ethernet and data centers, and uses four 25Gbit/s transmission channels to transmit data. Compared with the CFP series fiber optical module, 100G QSFP28 fiber optical module has a smaller volume and can achieve higher-density wiring. The power consumption during work generally does not exceed 3.5W, and QSFP28 fiber optical module can be used to directly upgrade from 25G to 100G without 40G, with low cost. The power consumption of other 100G fiber optical modules is generally between 6W and 24W. It can be seen that the power consumption of QSFP28 fiber optical modules is lower than that of other 100G fiber optical modules.

    The working principle of 100G QSFP28 fiber optical module

    100G QSFP28 fiber optical module is mainly composed of the first clock data recovery module, the array drive module, the laser emission module, the photoelectric conversion module and the electrical signal processing module. The signal is converted into an optical signal, so that it can be propagated in the optical fiber. It has the advantages that cable propagation does not have, such as transmission distance, transmission rate, etc. After reaching the destination, the optical signal is converted back to an electrical signal through the fiber optical module for the equipment to use.     1. First, the data recovery module will perform data recovery processing on the input 100G electrical signal, and then input the processed electrical signal to the array drive module;

    2. The array drive module then modulates and demodulates the received electrical signal, and then transmits it to the laser emitting module;

    3. In the part of the laser transmitter module, the electrical signal will be converted into an optical signal and then coupled to the optical fiber;

    4. The coupled optical signal will be transmitted to the photoelectric conversion module, and then converted into an electrical signal again, and output to the electrical signal processing module;

    5. The final electrical signal processing module is used to sequentially convert electrical signals into voltage and amplify them before outputting to the main control terminal.


    The working principles of four common 100G fiber optical module models are also slightly different, 100G QSFP28 SR4, 100G QSFP28 PSM4, 100G QSFP28 LR4 and 100G QSFP28 CWDM4.

    The working principle of 100G QSFP28 SR4 fiber optical module and the 100G QSFP28 PSM4 fiber optical module are basically the same. When transmitting signals at the transmitting end, the electrical signals are converted into optical signals by the laser array, and then transmitted in parallel on the optical fiber. When it reaches the receiving end, The photodetector array converts parallel optical signals into parallel electrical signals, except that the former is on a multi-mode fiber and the latter is on a single-mode fiber.

    The working principle of 100G QSFP28 LR4 fiber optical module and 100G QSFP28 CWDM4 fiber optical module are the same. They both convert 4 25Gbps electrical signals into 4 LAN WDM optical signals, and then multiplex them into a single channel to achieve 100G optical transmission. At the receiving end, the module demultiplexes 100G optical input into 4 LAN WDM optical signals, and then converts them into 4 electrical signal output channels.
